Silver Clay
Silver clay is a malleable material made from fine silver particles, organic binder, and water. Reclaimed fine silver is suspended in the clay-like material.
It can be shaped and moulded like clay before being fired in a kiln or with a torch.
Once fired, the binder burns away, leaving behind solid silver with a purity of 99.9%. What is left behind is slightly smaller than the original size because the clay is completely burned away and the silver particles sinter to become a solid piece.
It is possible to create unique designs, intricate jewellery and small sculptures.
It is also possible to dilute the clay, making it into a slip.
Items like leaves and seeds can then be painted on the reverse side, dried, and repeatedly painted and dried until the desired thickness is obtained. When this is done - perhaps with a leaf - an absolute replica of the top side of the leaf is obtained when the clay and leaf are burned away.
